Central Otago Photography Tours & Workshops
Explore Central Otago with Ray Tiddy Photography
Get off the beaten track and explore some of Central Otago’s wildest landscapes with my 4WD photography tours and workshops.
Jump into my classic mid-90s Landcruiser and head deep into the backcountry - far from the usual tourist spots - to discover hidden valleys, mountain passes, historic gold mining routes, and some of the best photo locations in the region.
These trips are built for travellers wanting something a little different, couples chasing epic imagery, or photographers looking to improve their skills while exploring some seriously beautiful country.
Half Day Adventures
Perfect if you’re short on time but still want a proper backcountry experience.
Half day tours run for around 4-5 hours and are ideal for portrait sessions, couple shoots, or landscape photography missions.
Popular locations include:
Skippers Canyon - dramatic cliffside roads, historic gold mining history, and unreal landscapes
Macetown - river crossings, stone ruins, and rugged alpine scenery
Nevis Valley - remote high-country terrain and huge open landscapes
Full Day Adventures
For those wanting to go further and see more.
Full day tours give us the flexibility to explore deeper into the backcountry, hit multiple locations, and work around the best light for photography.
This is the best option for serious photographers, adventure-loving travellers, or anyone wanting to create something unique.
Locations can include:
West Wānaka Station
Nevis Valley
Haast Pass & The West Coast
Custom backcountry routes around Central Otago
Photography Workshops
Want to improve your photography while you’re out there?
I offer optional photography workshops during these tours, whether you’re just getting started or already know your way around a camera.
We can cover:
Camera settings and shooting in manual
Understanding light and composition
Landscape photography techniques
Shooting people in wild locations
Storytelling through imagery
Editing tips and workflow
Bring your camera, film camera, drone, or even your phone - the goal is to help you create stronger images and build confidence behind the lens.
Have your own adventure in mind?
If there’s somewhere specific you want to explore or shoot, get in touch and we can build a custom trip around it. Whether it’s for landscapes, portraits, content creation, or just a day out in the backcountry - I’m always keen for a mission.
